COMPANY POLICY STATEMENT

The objective of J. B. Long, Inc. is to provide quality steel shop drawings to our fabrication customers at a reasonable cost while maintaining a profit margin that will allow the business to grow.

    We maintain complete and accurate records of our projects from start to finish. We are currently using Abacus PM to accomplish this goal. (Please see the J. B. Long, Inc. Forms Packet.)

      Our company works as a team. This gives us a sense of pride, accomplishment and satisfaction.

      We strive to maintain close contact with our customers.  When changes occur, we review them and communicate with the customer in writing of any cost or schedule impacts.

     These systems have allowed us to maintain a high level of quality. Our goal is to continue providing quality service and thrive in the years to come.

DRAFTING ORGANIZATION

  1. The owner, James Long, or a qualified detailer assigned by him, bids all new work. Input from other draftsman is often asked for.

  2. James Long, or qualifed detailer assigned by him, discusses dollars and schedule with the client.

  3. Once we receive the go-ahead on a new project, a job number is posted on the job list. A folder is prepared for correspondence. All documents (bid, specs., addendums, and etc.) are punched and secured in the job folder. A drawer is assigned and labeled with the job number and name.

  4. Abacus PM: Used to acquire the new job number, log design drawings, specs and addendums, log and transmit shop drawings, log RFI's, Records of Communication, Notification of Changes, Billing Directives.

  5. During our regular production meetings with the project managers the particulars of the project are discussed.

  6. All plans are checked prior to commencement of detailing. The Project Manager or a qualified detailer assigned by him fields questions. He also writes and logs necessary RFI's.

  7. Each Project Manager has a team of detailers and checkers. Detailers are assigned based on availability.

  8. James Long, or qualifed detailer assigned by him, monitors progress via regular production meetings.

  9. The Project Manager or a responsible agent under his direction reviews design changes. Cost impact is determined and client is notified via the standard forms. All old design documents are clearly marked as such. Revisions are logged accordingly.

  10. After detailing plots are transmitted according to the client's requirements, and may be stamped "For Approval Only" and dated per client direction.

  11. Checking is then started and completed. All check prints are stamped "Check Print" and dated. After checking, all sheets are back-checked by the detailers before scrubbing.  The checker rings off all scrubbing.

  12. Approvals are reviewed for any cost and scheduling impact. Approval changes are made and back-checked. Prints are transmitted according to the client's requirements, stamped "Released for Shop Use" and dated.

  13. Extra work is tracked on the appropriate forms for the benefit of J. B. Long and our customer.
